What are you feeding your mental/emotional energy bodies?

We all know the old phrase garbage in, garbage out. The quality of the input determines the quality of the output. It can’t be any other way.

I know we are all capable of beautiful works that inspire, uplift, and support. Why would we want to assault our emotions and mental state with depressing, hateful, fear-based dystopian imaginings offered to us through entertainment and social media?

This is a question I invite each of us to consider with intentionality, and honestly ask what am I feeding my soul? Why do I expect the world to be a beautiful loving safe place for me if my input is designed to steer my imagination to the worst outcomes possible?

With this in mind, I put together a booklist I consider quality input. I have all these books dog-eared and highlighted for quick inspirational reference. Each book offers explanations and real solutions for the problems we face personally and on a shared global level. Most books on this list are also available as audibles.

  1. The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz. This is a practical guide for understanding and forming relationships. In plain language, the material explains the root of our emotional wounds, how to heal them, and what works and doesn’t work in a healthy relationship. Anyone wanting a loving connection between friends, family, or lovers that’s fun, supportive, interesting, and playful will find value in this book.

  2. Living Untethered: Beyond the Human Predicament by Michael A. Singer. Profound wisdom on every page with clear guidance that I found helpful for getting out of my own way and stop taking everything so seriously. A beautiful understanding of life from a broader perspective with an explanation of our role in this miraculous, eternal unfolding. This book offers freedom by healing our thoughts and emotions.

  3. The Choice: Embrace the Possible by Dr. Edith Eva Eger. I read this memoir several years ago (and her following book The Gift), and was deeply changed by it. Dr. Eger is an Auschwitz survivor and shares her story of unfathomable horror and suffering with courage, honesty, and lived wisdom. The book bounces between her life in the death camp and her current life as a renowned psychologist. The advice she gives for living your best life is nothing short of genius. What sticks out is her unflinching belief that we all have a choice no matter our circumstance. While imprisoned, she said some days her choice was between which blade of grass she was going to eat that day. I feel blessed to have read this memoir.

  4. The Healing Questions Guide by Wendi Jensen. A 500-page handbook filled with just about every disease, symptom, and ailing body part. Each issue has a corresponding list of questions to ask yourself that are specific to the core idea/pattern/belief that may have created the problem followed by a powerful mantra designed to heal. I like this resource a lot and it’s easy to use. It covers everything alphabetically from abdominal cramps to yellow fever, and is stunningly accurate. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to understand their body messages and the possible root cause of whatever they are suffering. Once this is known, people often move beyond dis-ease to wholeness. I’ve never had anyone yet that reads their questions for their symptoms and says it’s not accurate (including me!).

  5. The Calling: 3 Fundamental Shifts to Stay True, Get Paid, and Do Good by Rha Goddess. A doable step-by-step for identifying your mission in life and how to achieve it in the work force. Great material for anyone wanting to get more from their career or change it to something more fulfilling and in alignment with their passion. This book is about thriving by answering your heart call and not simply collecting a paycheck.
