What has taken over your mind?

Have you ever been asleep dreaming and the dream felt so real that your body reacted to it? For instance, have you ever experienced something sad in your dream and woke up crying? Or dreamt something sexy and your body orgasmed?

The other night I dreamt I was walking down a flight of stairs and missed the last step. I could see myself falling and had that sudden off-balance feeling. My body jerked awake as if it had missed a step even though I was lying in my bed completely safe. In that moment, my body absolutely believed it had missed a step and reacted appropriately to the data it was receiving no matter its actual reality.

The mind is powerful. And as hard as it is to accept sometimes, the mind has control over the body. What the mind believes, the body must create. The mind is the architect, the blueprint maker. The body is the perfect builder of the blueprint. What the mind believes, so does the body.

I think this is good news. Now we know we’re not victims and can prove it. Before we see anything tangible in our outer world (and body), it must first pass through our minds as a possible reality for us. Examine your experiences and you’ll see this is true.

But in order to have real choice in the creation of the life we want, we must answer a tough question: What patterns and beliefs do we already have in our minds that are creating 24/7?

These patterns and beliefs are conditioned into us from childhood. They become so normal that we don’t even realize they are in there creating our version of what we think of as reality.

How do we know we have patterns and beliefs?

Have you noticed there’s a narrator inside your head? Only you can hear it but it is always talking and it’s extremely hard to make it stop. It tells you the sky is blue when you’re looking at the sky. No one needs to tell you this because you already know it, but the voice inside your head will tell you anyway.

And that’s not all it tells you. It’s often overly critical and judgmental. It never likes the weather, it’s either too hot or too cold. It tells you our leaders are idiots, your neighbor’s dog is ugly, and you’re too fat. If it tells you something good, it’s always closely followed by how it could be better. Or it will overexaggerate your importance and how the whole world would stop without you.

This voice is your conditioned patterns and beliefs that you’ve been living with since you were about five years old. It is not the real you. Did you know before the age of five you didn’t have this critic in your head? The mind of a child is silent without extra chatter because they haven’t been programmed yet. They are just present. We can’t even imagine what it’s like to have a silent mind.

That is why many of our enlightened masters taught to go back to your childlike nature. They are talking about evicting the debilitating program that masquerades as you. Once you do that, you are free to create your life as you were meant to without the extra static messing it up.

This week I invite you to listen to the voice in your head and take note of all the opinions and nonsense it talks about. This voice is a user and is consuming 90 percent of your energy. But in order to do anything about it, you first have to notice the squatter taking up valuable real estate in your fertile mind.

Be vigilant about what’s talking to you. Notice what it says and what it forces your body to feel. Are you feeling good about yourself and the world? Or not? Just noticing is a great start to the eviction process.
