Do you have an addiction?

I believe the next few years will be a huge leap forward in human evolution as we begin to come to terms with our addictions and the role they play in our lives.

It will be our toughest hurdle—the mastery of the conditioned mind. It is addicted to everything: gossip, food, shopping, alcohol, work, laziness, greed, money, people, love, anger, illness, sex, outside authority, people pleasing, fixer, complaining, judging, justifying, social media, gambling, comparing, smoking, television, drugs, etc.

Addiction is anything you’re using that distracts you from remembering who you are naturally. Anything at all that keeps you from unity consciousness and connection to the vital source that is you.

The conditioned mind knows how to keep pulling you into addictive behaviors through tools already in place: beliefs, patterning, and fear.

Since you can’t live anyone else’s life—not in their thoughts, feelings, words, or actions, it makes the most sense to concentrate on what’s going on inside you. And you have the perfect tool to do that—your physical body.

Your body tells you exactly how you feel about every concept, every experience you’re living through. If in alignment, your body is at ease and working smoothly. When not in alignment, there’s dis-ease that feels like resistance.

So, here’s a little exercise using basic human concepts that can help determine if you’re in balance or caught in a conditioned addictive mind. You will either feel at ease or resistance as you think about these two-part questions. I encourage you to write your answers.

  • What does it mean to be kind?

    • What does it mean to be kind to yourself?

  • What does it mean to be good?

    • What does it mean to be good to yourself?

  • What does it mean to be nice?

    • What does it mean to be nice to yourself?

  • What does it mean to be helpful?

    • What does it mean to be helpful to yourself?

Do your answers match? Are you treating yourself the same as your definition of each concept? If not, then you’re listening to a conditioned mind and not your wisest council.

You’ll know what’s true for you because you’ll feel resistance in the body if you’re not in alignment. If you go against yourself often enough, it becomes an addiction and you’ll use any means possible to deny your own stellar body-feeling validity.

That’s okay. No wrong answers, simply an opportunity for greater awareness.

Let yourself feel what the body tells you before the thoughts begin. If you feel pain, resistance, dis-ease, stop everything you’re doing and just breathe. Focus completely on your inhales and exhales and allow yourself to come back to center. Feel the ground at your feet, solid, stable. Appreciate the body for letting you know you’ve gone a little sideways, then make a new choice that feels vibrant, lighter, more in alignment with what’s right for you.

Your body will let you know if you’re on track.
