The root power of words

I love reading. If an author is an especially gifted storyteller, it might take me a crazy amount of time to get through the book because I keep rereading clever sentences. They make the work seem effortless and I’m forever awed by their skill.

I guess my point is I love the written word and the power it has to create whole images and concepts in my mind as if it’s reality. It brings a multidimensionality to what is basically formed by using two-dimensional words.

And that got me thinking.

What we think and feel is creating our perception of reality. We may be reading a work of fiction, but while we’re immersed in the story a portion of our conscious mind believes what it’s reading. It willingly goes along with the narrative by shaping the story images in my head as if real.

That’s powerful. Words are powerful in their ability to influence the way we think, feel, and move in this world. Words can manipulate and they can inspire. The meaning we give words have their own pervasive power that has an impact on our energy field. Words carry vibration.

For fun, I looked at the Latin root of the word “entertainment,” since I’m talking about reading a fictional book for fun. To me, that’s a form of entertainment.

The word ‘enter’ is defined to come in or gain access. The word ‘tain’ means to hold. And the word ‘ment’ from old Latin ‘mens’ or ‘mente’ means mind. So, the word entertainment is derived from Latin and means to gain access and hold the mind.

Which is what happens when we’re into a book, movie, sports, or whatever we consider entertainment. For the amount of time we give our focus to something outside ourselves and keep nothing back, we are freely giving it access to enter and hold our mind—our creative power. Always look up from whatever your focus and check in with your true inner being. Don’t lose who you are in anything or anyone.

Here’s another word: government. Govern = rule; ment = mind. And since my goal is to share energy information with you each week, I found it interesting how words are so normalized. We don’t stop to consider what they really mean and the power rooted within them that we’re agreeing to give our energy to.

This has prompted me to be a lot more vigilant about the entertainment I give my mind to and the words I speak knowing both are energetic tools in the creation of my reality. What is it I want to live? And how do I want to live? Aware and empowered? Or unaware and enslaved?
