What is delicious and a powerful detoxifier?
I just got back from a week-long vacation to Branson, MO with my hubby. We took our time driving there, stopped where we wanted to, and drank and ate whatever we wanted. It was relaxing and super fun. I also came back home several pounds heavier and loaded with tons of toxins in my system disguised as dessert and alcohol.
Whenever I go on an extended splurge like this, my body rebels with backaches, joint pain, and fatigue—delicate flower that I am. So, I help get my system back on track by drinking a yummy detoxifier with four simple ingredients—warm water, lemon, ginger, raw honey.
Here’s my recipe:
Bring a full tea kettle of water to boil and set aside
Chunk two lemons into small wedges and put into a pitcher. Tamp out juice with a spoon.
Peel and grate a knob of fresh ginger root. Put in pitcher with the lemon
Pour all the water from the tea kettle into the pitcher, stir, and let steep at least 15 minutes
Pour mixture through a strainer into a mug
Stir in one (or two) teaspoons of raw honey
Drink 2-3 times/day. Refrigerate leftovers. Can also drink cold.
I love the taste, and a couple days of drinking this refreshing mixture and my body feels happy again. Here’s why these three ingredients are so important to our health:
Our liver collects toxins from the blood. The calcium levels in the lemons bind to the Vitamin C and enter the liver where they help loosen and disperse the toxins AND (as a bonus) fat cells. Yay! Rich in Vitamin C, antioxidants, and powerful digestive enzymes, lemons are also great immunity boosters.
Ginger improves gastrointestinal health. It relieves indigestion, bloating, constipation, colic, nausea, sore throats, muscle pain, stomach flu, fatigue, exhaustion, and helps alleviate muscle pain, arthritis, migraines, and hypertension. It’s great for nutrient absorption, improves circulation, reduces hunger, and also contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
Raw honey is about as perfect of a food as you can get as a detoxifier and immunity builder. It is antimicrobial, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and immediately strengthens the liver’s immune system. Ray honey lowers blood pressure and improves cholesterol by lowering triglycerides. It’s also a detoxifier, has anti-inflammatory properties, and contains large amounts of antioxidants which help remove free radicals from the body. Free radicals are linked to chronic health issues such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. Raw honey also scrapes away toxic build-up in the intestines.
Drinking lemon/ginger/honey water is a powerful, yet delicious way to detoxify, support your immune system, and bring your body back to balance.
