How to maintain a balanced weight this holiday using 4 energy tips

 
 

This time of year is typically thought of as the season of joy, but if you ask me it’s also the season of temptation. How many times can a person realistically say no to holiday baked goods and party food? I might be able to resist the pretzels dipped in almond bark, but there’s no way I’m turning my back on a chocolate truffle. I’m not insane.

But neither do I have any interest in gaining weight and feeling bad about it. So, here’s a few techniques I’ve found that are super helpful in maintaining a healthy weight while enjoying holiday treats without guilt:

  1. Before eating anything, take a deep breath, close your eyes a few seconds and fill yourself with energy. Visualize, or feel, or pretend you’re drawing in a wide column of sparkling light through the top of your head. Allow your whole body to fill with this glow. Now ask yourself if you’re hungry. You might not be. If not, don’t eat, and it won’t be hard for you to resist.

  2. After doing the above and if you still feel hungry, take a deep breath getting centered and peaceful. Now tune into your body. What is it telling you it wants to eat? Put your hand over your stomach if it helps you connect. Then eat only what it tells you.

  3. If you’re facing a party holiday spread, pause a few seconds getting centered, then look at each item and let your body tell you what food is right for you. You’ll get a very real signal. For me, anything not for me kind of turns my stomach in a subtle way as I look at it.

  4. If you decide to eat something, don’t do it unconsciously. Take a moment to connect with your food energetically. Appreciate your food for the nourishment it provides. Remember, everything is consciousness in different forms including your food. It doesn’t have to agree to be eaten by you. And if you eat it anyway without conscious thought, you may find out just how much it doesn’t agree with you!

Practicing these techniques has kept me at a balanced, healthy weight without counting calories or limiting the kinds of food I eat. Enjoy your holiday!
