Are you a slave to your story?

I’ve come to realize it takes longer for most humans to get over illnesses because we internalize our stories. It seems we’re addicted to stories, especially traumatic ones, and keep retelling them.

That’s okay. Nothing to judge here. It’s not a right or wrong thing. BUT the moment we choose to make something more powerful than the eternal authentic Self, we become a slave to it.

What does that mean?

By reliving a painful memory over and over you truly recreate the sensation within your body as if it is all happening again in the present moment. Your body does it’s job by releasing the fight or flight hormones which elevates blood pressure, heart rate, adrenaline, breath rate, etc. All good things when you actually need to fight or flee, but pretty destructive for the body if the thoughts/feelings are chronic.

You can feel these changes happening inside you when you tell your story. You can also see this happening to someone else when they tell their story. They get more animated. Their eyes change and you can see them moving their consciousness inside as they revisit the memory. In their mind’s eye they can see it as if it’s all real right now. Depending on the memory, anxiety levels spike or depression kicks in, or anger intensifies, or hopelessness/apathy increases, or whatever emotion the person uses to hold space for an experience that has not been completely understood and healed.

In a word, they really are stuck in a nonending loop of reacting versus responding. They are caught in their own creative stories. They become a slave to the victim story which dims their connection to their highest wisdom Self.

Farm animals have no story. Things are what they are. They definitely have emotions, but their minds don’t tell stories and their bodies heal.

Again, there’s no right or wrong here. Your journey is valuable exactly as it’s unfolding. But if you want to try a different way as an experiment, here’s what I suggest:

  1. Tell your story once and feel what you feel. Don’t deny anything.

  2. But don’t blame anyone for how you feel either. That’s the story. Instead make your feelings more neutral. Say instead, “Anger is present.” Or “Sadness is present.” Or “Fear is present.” Or whatever the emotion. Your body really likes it when you confirm it’s message in this way.

  3. Ask your body what the message is and if you get nothing, ask, “If I could know, what’s this all about?” Asking if you could know, gets the mental mind out of the way.

  4. Ask for your highest value for the experience. If you get “I don’t know,” ask “What is the highest value of not knowing?” No matter what answer you get, keep asking for the highest value of that answer. It won’t be long and you’ll feel an aha! That’s it! And your energy will shift. You’ll feel better, lighter, more yourself again and NOT caught in a story.

We’ve all been conditioned to tell our stories, the more traumatic the better. However, if not supported with a complete understanding of the benefit of the experience, we will create more of the same.

If you want to dive a bit deeper into the how and why of our human conditioning and how to change it, Kristine Kieland and I are offering a three-part class guaranteed to shine some light on the surprising causes that limit your ability to live and function with complete awareness and understanding. Click the link below for The Great Hoax and How to End It. The first class was Sept 29, the next is Oct 6. You may sign up anytime until the last class which is Oct 13. Everyone who signs up will get a recording of all three classes.

And as always, I’m available for private sessions if you need deeper understanding, support, or guidance in the form of energy work or intuitive life coaching.
