How to know what food is best for you

For lunch today I had scrambled eggs with avocado slices and salsa.

Why?

Because that’s what my body wanted to eat. When I stood in front of the refrigerator, door open, and asked my stomach what about a sandwich, or leftover taco pie? Pineapple? Grapes? My stomach immediately felt queasy. It wasn’t having it. It was totally set on the egg-avocado-salsa platter.

I trust my body. It’s super intelligent. It knows what vitamins, minerals, and proteins it needs to stay healthy.

I don’t. If it were entirely up to me, I’d eat cereal for every meal because it’s easy.

It’s also super easy to tune into your body to find out what it wants.

Usually it will crave the food with the nutrients it’s low on. If you’re in a restaurant, you can touch the choices on the menu and listen to what your body tells you as you go down the list. You can also put your hand above the food in your refrigerator and feel how your body reacts.

Pay attention to the subtle clues your body gives you like queasiness, blandness, belching, excitement, mouthwatering, craving, etc.

My stomach always lets me know what it’s in the mood for. Do you listen to your body? What is it telling you?
