Feeling anxious? Try these 3 techniques

No doubt you’ve heard the term grounding. But what is grounding?

Grounding means you are present in your body, that you feel your emotions without trying to push them away, and that you feel safe and connected in your body.

Grounding means you are present in your body, that you feel your emotions without trying to push them away, and that you feel safe and connected in your body.

There are many ways to achieve the grounded state through simple exercises. These three techniques help calm anxious feelings by activating that safe feeling in the brain.

  1. Got a tension headache or stiff shoulders? Then tighten them even more. Bring your shoulders up to your ears, make fists, close your eyes tight and scrunch your face. Now hold it for 5 seconds. Take a deep breath as you relax the pose. Notice how much calmer you feel. Repeat again if you aren’t completely relaxed.

  2. Feeling anxious and can’t stop the inner chatter? Then ground through your 5 senses. Notice 5 things you can see. Notice 4 things you can hear. Notice 3 things you can feel. Notice 2 things you can smell. Notice 1 thing you can taste. This simple exercise keeps the active mind happy while bringing you back into your body.

  3. Locate your belly button with your first 2 fingers. With your other hand touch the center of your forehead (brow chakra) with 2 fingers. Take a deep cleansing breath, then push in with your fingers at your belly button and your brow while pulling up on the skin at the same time. Push in, pull up. Hold it for a count of 5 while you take a deep breath, then let go. Take another breath. You’ll feel much more relaxed and powerful in your body.

And here’s a bonus technique. If you’re feeling light headed, try bouncing on your feet or do 5 jumping jacks. This will bring you right back into your body so you feel safer and less anxious.

If you want to begin to clear anxiety out of your body, breathwork is a great way to help with that. I’m offering a class on Saturday, May 3 at 9:30am in Hastings, MN at the Pure Serenity Wellness Center. We’ll be combining breathwork with dry salt therapy by conducting class in their beautiful salt therapy room. Only 2 spots left, so sign up through the link if this interests you: https://www.marymbauer.com/events/breathwork-may-2025-myw4h

I’ve also been conducting breathwork at the amazing Journey Inn eco-retreat center and B&B. Their April retreat is booked but there’s still room if you want to attend their May event (May 30-Jun 1): The Artful Journey Mind & Body—A restorative escape for creativity, connection and self care. Gourmet meals, sauna, beautiful restored country home nestled by trees alongside a lazy creek, private luxe accommodations, and that’s besides all the cool fun things planned for you for this retreat. If interested, here’s the signup link:  https://journeyinn.net/new-events-1/2025/5/30/the-artful-journey-mind-body

(As an aside: If you ever want to get a group together for breathwork at your home, let me know.)

Other news: I’ve been learning reflexology from a master healer that I prayed would come into my life and help me grow into what I need next. And he did. If all goes well, I’ll be a certified reflexologist by late next spring. If you notice me giving your feet a LOT more attention during your session, this is why. 😉

More news: I’ll be closing my Ellsworth office at the end of April, 2025. The last day to book an Ellsworth session with me is on Tuesday, April 29. After that, all sessions will be held in my home office on the farm near Plum City. I’ll be offering expanded days and hours in May. Stay tuned.

Lastly: My more than 2 years with Jenni Hines in her gorgeous Studio 2.0 Hair Salon has been wonderfully rewarding and such a growth opportunity for me. Jenni is not only an incredible talent, but she’s a generous friend and a fun one too! We’ve certainly laughed a lot. I’ve struggled with the decision to close my office as I’ve been nothing but happy in her studio. But this feels like the right move as it gives me a bit more time flexibility. If you know of someone looking for a room to rent with a great landlord, give Jenni a call or let me know.

And as always, I’m available for individual sessions. All sessions include deep energy support and loving intuitive guidance to heal emotional/physical pain and confusion so you can live your best life. Click here to schedule.

Or click here to purchase an intuitive mentorship package for ongoing weekly support to release negative patterns, promote a healthy mindset, and build on what you desire most.
