How to help your pet heal

Animals are absolutely amazing at helping us heal. They love us unconditionally, which allows us to be exactly who we are in their presence. Crabby, sad, loving, joyful. They accept our emotions without judgement—literally, and that’s exactly what creates an imbalance within their physical bodies, at times.

Pay attention and you’ll discover that when you’re feeling anxious, your pet does, too. Probably can’t get close enough to you. When your shoulder hurts, so does your pet’s. When you develop an illness, so does your pet.

We had a dog that went crazy every time we got home from work. Bounced around, circling us like he hadn’t just seen us 8 hours prior. Play, play, play, he’d bounce. So happy to see us. But the day we came home after learning of my brother’s death, there was no bouncing or playing in our dog. He approached us quietly, gently, and sat at our feet, leaning into us, not able to get close enough. He knew we were hurting inside, and he knew how to help by taking some of our pain. That’s what animals do for us.

We can help them as well. When we are upset, we can let them know that it’s not something they have to hold onto. We can tell them we had a bad day at work, but we will solve whatever it is and it’s okay if they don’t carry the burden for us. If something is going on with us, we need to share our thoughts honestly and compassionately with our pets, letting them know how much we appreciate them, and that they can let our emotions go through them without hanging onto them. We can assure them that we will get through whatever it is we’re going through. And when we leave them, we must let them know what time we’ll return to relieve their anxiety over our departure.

Lastly, when your pet is ill, you can do energy work on them. They have chakras (energy centers) just like we do. Always ask their permission before you work on them, but if they allow it, you can set your intention for the highest and best good, then gently place your hands over the area of pain. You may feel some warmth or tingling in your hands, or nothing at all. Just trust that your intention for healing is helping them. If your pet resists, stop immediately. That is their signal that they don’t want the help, so don’t force it. You can also “rake” through their energy with your hands, imagining you’re pulling off anything not useful for their healing.

I’ve helped a nearly dead baby calf that was barely breathing and unable to move by putting one hand on the back of his neck and the other at the base of his spine. I ran the energy up and down his spine through his energy centers (chakras) every day for three days. By the third day, you’d never know there had been anything wrong with him. My hubby called him the miracle calf.

You can do this, too. And if you really want to get involved in this type of work, there’s a course you can take: Healing Touch for Animals. I also explain more about the chakra system in my book Guarding Clare. The link is below if you’re interested.

And as always, I’m available for private or gallery sessions if you need deeper understanding, support, or guidance through energy work or intuitive life coaching.
